Use these definitions when reading or changing Maze Next Gen documentation. Domain pages own system facts, decisions, requirements, and procedures; this page owns reusable terminology.
Component
Status: Adopted
Scope: Architecture
A software building block contained within a container. Components collaborate to provide the container's behavior but do not have an independent runtime and deployment boundary in the documented architecture.
Examples include NestJS modules, controllers, guards, service classes, packages/api, packages/shared, packages/logger, and provider packages compiled into Maze UI, Maze Core, or Maze Git.
Related terms: Container, Deployable unit
Container
Status: Adopted
Scope: Architecture, C4
An independently runnable and deployable unit, or an independently provisioned data store. A container has a runtime boundary and concrete deployment evidence such as a process entry point, image build, Kubernetes Deployment/Service, infrastructure resource, port, or persistence interface.
In C4, “container” describes an application or data-store boundary. It does not mean only a Docker or OCI container, and an image alone does not establish the classification when no runnable entry point or deployment contract exists.
For Maze Legacy, the AS_IS registry classifies Maze UI and Maze Core as deployable application containers, Maze Git as a deployable artifact whose live deployment remains unconfirmed, and PostgreSQL as an independently provisioned data-store container.

Deployable unit
Status: Adopted
Scope: Architecture, Engineering
An application, process, or data store that can be built or provisioned and operated independently through its own deployment contract. Evidence normally includes an executable entry point or provisioned service plus configuration for image, runtime, networking, persistence, or infrastructure lifecycle.
A library compiled into another application is not a deployable unit even when it is independently versioned or published as a package.
