Delivery scope

Run trainer and sport through the same 3,600-tick handling-comparison fixture with identical initial state, environment, seed, timestep, and pitch/roll/throttle commands. Produce HandlingComparisonReport for roll time-to-30-degrees, pitch settling time, peak level-flight speed, heading recovery, and presentation/config digest parity; enforce metric-specific separation thresholds from config/handling-comparison-thresholds.json.

Implementation contract

Implementation artifacts

  • applications/web/test/flight/aircraft-handling-comparison.browser.spec.ts
  • applications/web/test/fixtures/handling/standard-manoeuvre.json
  • config/handling-comparison-thresholds.json

Inputs

  • HandlingComparisonRequest {buildSha,leftConfigId:'trainer',rightConfigId:'sport',initialState, environmentSnapshot, seed, fixedStepSeconds, commands} with one shared fixture digest.

Outputs

  • HandlingComparisonReport {fixtureDigest,aircraftDigests,metrics:{roll30Seconds,pitchSettlingSeconds,peakSpeedMps,headingRecoverySeconds},differences,thresholds,presentationDigestParity,passed,violations}.

Failure boundaries

  • Fail with COMPARISON_INPUT_MISMATCH if initial state, environment, seed, timestep, or command digest differs between aircraft runs.
  • Fail with HANDLING_DIFFERENCE_NOT_OBSERVED when any required metric separation is below its committed threshold.
  • Fail with HANDLING_RUN_NOT_REPEATABLE when either aircraft's repeated metric differs beyond config/determinism-tolerances.json.
  • Fail with HANDLING_PRESENTATION_MISMATCH when either displayed sourceDigest or rating does not correspond to the physics config snapshot.

Excluded scope

  • Pilot skill scoring, subjective realism, superiority ranking, real-aircraft performance claims, more than the two supported archetypes, and environmental comparison are excluded.

Verification steps

  • Run applications/web/test/flight/aircraft-handling-comparison.browser.spec.ts in Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit.
  • Execute five repetitions per aircraft and assert all metric separation, within-aircraft repeatability, and presentation digest checks.
  • Deliberately share identical configs, alter one run input, perturb a repeated metric, and substitute a presentation digest; assert the four exact failure codes.
  • Retain test-results/handling/aircraft-comparison.json with build, fixture, and both aircraft digests.
